Did you grow up eating frozen fish sticks? Well.. I mean… They weren’t frozen when you ate them obviously.. Or were they?.. Did you eat them while they were still frozen?? What’s wrong with you?! That’s disgusting!
Wait… Where was I? Oh yeah. If you ate fish sticks growing up, they kind of remind me of those, only a little bigger.
I opted to deep fry them over baking them because my deep dryer was already on, though frying them made them a tad oily, as to be expected. When you eat them by itself, you can taste a very mild fishy flavor, but it’s hard to tell because they did such a good job with the fish fry batter. The texture and flavor of the batter and the texture of the “fish” makes it seem pretty close to the real thing. Also dipping them in tarter sauce just makes it that much more fish like. You could put 2 of these on a bun and make a fish filet sandwich… Mmmm.. Why didn’t I think of that earlier?
The texture and flavor are not exact, which is to be expected with an alternative, but it’s pretty damn close. If you like fish, or liked it in the past and you want an alternative, try these.
